Do I REALLY need to Exercise? Week 4 Begins

Welcome back to our 12 Weeks of Getting Healthy & Fit Series.  Today marks the end of Week 3.  Last week, I didn’t “officially” report any weight lost since I had the family emergency to deal with and didn’t get weighed at an appropriate time.

This week, however, I did weigh in and I’m down 3 pounds from 2 weeks ago.  It’s not quite as drastic as week one, but I’ll take it!  That makes a total of 9 pounds!  Woot!  I’ll take whatever I can get!

I can tell in my face and my stomach the most so far, but it’s still very small changes that I’m noticing.  Once I lose a little more, I’ll share with you the side shot….which is a little more obvious!  The side shot is a bit appalling to me, so I’m hesitant to share it with you yet.

My biggest obstacle this week was Exercise.

I’m busy.  I’m a homeschool mom of 6 kids.  I just can’t seem to find the time to exercise.  This week, I walked with my husband, did T-tapp once and tiled more of a floor (and got sore from doing all those squats!).  I don’t think this is enough.  It’s definitely not meeting my original goal of 5x a week.  I often said that I’d be a fit fat girl, because I much prefer exercising over changing my eating habits, but right now, it seems to be the opposite.  It’s not that I mind exercise, it’s just hard to take the time when I’ve got a toddler and 5 other kids needing me so often.  I get distracted….or you could even say sidetracked (wink).  Yes, I’ve got all the excuses in the world, but this week, I’m going to really, really focus on making exercise a priority!  I’m going to try starting my day with it.

Why do I REALLY need exercise?

  • Building muscles, burns calories!  Any physical movement burns calories, too.
  • It will help to reshape my problem areas.
  • It will strengthen my heart and my stamina (this is important to me as I watched my FIL go through his traumatic cardiac arrest experience last weekend)
  • Improves my mood – I’m still struggling with this a little
  • Boosts energy – I’m already feeling more energy than I was!
  • Promotes better sleep
  • It can be fun – We are signing up for a family fun run at the end of the month!  I’m excited to get my kids excited about it.

i have one suggestion: pick a nice outfit and wear it for every picture. its easier to see changes if the outfit doesnt distract. some outfits can make us look different, whether heavier or not, but the same outfit will be more obvious as it starts hanging on you! :):)

Great suggestion Ericka! I had planned to do that, but seems like when it's time to take the picture, I'm in a hurry. Once I start losing more, I for sure want to try taking the pics in that first outfit. Will be fun when they're really sagging off!

    Hi Sarah,
My dear granddaughter, Megan, sent an email with this address saying that I might find this site "interesting and encouraging". She is looking out for my health and gives me these little helps every now and then hoping I will get started making the right changes. She is sweet! Before my Dad passsed 9 years ago, I told him I was going to lose the weight for my health. Now, here I am and nothing has changed yet. Someday soon I hope.
Your 9 #s lost IS a very encouraging report. Keep up the good work and just keep moving. I look forward to seeing your progress.
    Meg's Gram, LaRee R.

Thanks LaRee! It's nice to have some extra support. It's so hard to get started, but once you figure out what works to keep you going…it gets a lot easier!

A quote keeps popping thru my head… "Do what you can, when you can, how you can." And thats good advice. Dont kick yourself for not getting the exercise you think you may need. You may be getting plenty of movement in your day to day life.. I wouldnt sweat it, at least not at the moment.

Congrats on that 9# Thats awesome!! I started Weight Watchers last Tuesday and Im down 6# though I know much of it was inflamation & water.. I'll take it, either way!
I have another good 50# to go.. my back & knees are giving me bad problems so I think its a must do, but each & every little baby step is what truly matter… not the great big ones.

    Blessings & much success!

Thank you so much! As a special needs mommy these recipes have helped us so much.   I often am very busy with being a nurse for our child that I don't have time for making sure we get meals.  This allows me to do all my prep on the weekends, while my husband is home to help, and to cook during the week.  So grateful!

Sarah’s Freezer to Slow Cooker ebooks have been a fantastic addition to my meal plans.  They make meal planning easy and my family happy. I love the way each recipe is laid out, with a shopping list and ingredient prep list, along with cooking instructions. Sarah’s done all the hard work for me!  The recipes have used have all been delicious and easily adaptable to my family’s taste and the number of people I’m serving.

I purchased all of your freezer to slow cooker ebooks a month or so ago and I'm in love with this way of cooking.  I now have taken all 10 weeks of recipes and written them of my menu planner and then I repeated the 10 weeks and will continue to do so throughout the year.  My family of 5 adults and 1 child enjoy the meals that you have planned and I have cooked and I'm excited that the next time when that meal comes due up in the rotation I won't have to purchase anything but just pull it from the freezer.  Thank you so much

This makes my life so much easier. I'm a busy work at home/stay at home mom, wife, business woman and I feel like dinner is always the thing I just never get time to do. We have done like 15 of the crockpot recipes from Sarah and they are all very yummy. They get a thumbs up from my husband and kids every time. And there is always enough for my husband to take the left overs at least 2x per recipe. I have a family of 5, 2 adults, 21, 13, 16. So it makes plenty. Thank you Sarah.

I am a 59-year-old wife and mother of two grown children.  I love your idea of fixing a lot of meals ahead of time and then pulling one out, put it in the crockpot, and you have dinner when you get home.  I hate feeling rushed when I cook so Monday - Friday I use those crockpot meals and make enough that we have lunch the next day.  I take Sunday afternoon, fix up what I need for the week (I don't have a lot of freezer space so I do a week's worth at a time) and I'm done with it!  Saturdays I like to try new recipes from some of my cookbooks which I am finding I can freeze as well!  So you have shown me a whole new way to organize my time and still put a healthy meal on the table.  Thanks so much and I look forward to future blogs.
