I think I’ve told you that I’m not exactly the most organized person in the world, haven’t I?
Unfortunately, I’m far from it. I have so much clutter, I don’t know what to do with it all!
Clutter isn’t the only problem, though. We don’t have adequate storage in our home, which makes our clutter problem look even worse.
But, storage and organization aren’t the only problems, either.
We don’t have very good habits. Shhh, don’t tell anyone. (HA! I think my IRL friends already know) And Yes, I’ve heard of Flylady. Love her. Learned from her. But don’t completely embrace ALL of her ways as my own. One of the things Flylady did teach me that I HAVE fully embraced, is that you can do anything for 15 minutes. That has helped me get so much accomplished!
Back to our habits though. We all (being my family and I) tend to let things go, until they get so bad, I am literally uncomfortable in my home and feel like I’m going crazy. Then, we have to spend a couple hours picking up the junk, just to put it in it’s less than perfect, overstuffed spaces. It’s like a never ending cycle and it happens on a daily basis.

Today, my husband and I decided to tackle the master bedroom. Our space. You have no idea how much junk we keep in “our” space. We have clothes for both of us, as well as clothes for 2 of the kids. 3 dressers. 2 closets. And way too many unmatched shoes & socks. Who has unmatched shoes, anyway?
I’ve been reading through Dana White’s books called “28 Days to Hope for Your Home“ and “Drowning in Clutter?“ and have been feeling a little more inspired and a little more optimistic that I really can get this clutter problem under control. What better time to do this than the New Year and the couple of months before I have my baby?
I keep thinking of this quote from Dana’s book, while I’m tidying, cleaning and decluttering……..
Clutter.
My definition of clutter is whatever I can’t handle. It’s not about deciding what I do or don’t need. It’s not even about knowing what I should or shouldn’t keep. It’s about understanding what I can handle.
Even if I believe in my heart of wanna-be-an-ultra-creative-mama hearts that every home should have a big stash of craft supplies. . . if I can’t keep that stash under control, it’s clutter.
Isn’t that the truth? I always thought that I should be able to have this much stuff, because other people that I know do, and they keep it controlled. Why is it different for me? Well, this section of the book, was my A-ha, moment. It’s because I’m wired differently! Duh. I am not the same as these born organized people, but I have different gifts, different talents and really, it’s OK. I can still figure it out, even though I repeatedly forget how to keep it nice. I’m not a lost cause. And either are you!
I’ve decided to begin a weekly decluttering event and I’m inviting you to join me! You may not be a clutter magnet like me, but I have a feeling you would like to improve something in your home. It’s time to stop procrastinating. Time to get on board. Time to tackle the junk, get rid of the stuff and enjoy our homes.
Are you with me? If so, I’m planning to start posting each Tuesday about a project in our home I decided to tackle. For instance, I may show you my messy, stacked to the ceiling dresser with extremely overstuffed drawers…….
Then, I’ll show you what it looks like once it’s complete. It’ll be awesome! I will also share a little about what I’m learning from Dana’s books that I’m reading, so that we can discuss it.
Would you like to focus on your clutter, disorganization and goals, too? I’d love for you to join me!
