10 Reasons WHy We Homeschool Our Children

Homeschooling.

It’s such a controversial subject isn’t it?

You’ve got those who think it’s an absolutely crazy and absurd idea.

You’ve got those who like the idea but aren’t brave enough to try it for themselves.

You’ve got those whose spouses are never on board, even though they would like to do it.

Then you’ve got those who are already currently homeschooling.  Some of those, are people like me, who planned to do it all along.  Then, there are those who had bad experiences with the school system.  There are those who didn’t ever want to homeschool but God called them to it and how can you ignore God in a situation like this?

The truth is, there are so many reasons that a family chooses to homeschool.  I thought I’d take a moment to tell you why our family makes this choice.

Why We Homeschool

  1.  We feel God is leading us to do this
  2. I love getting to spend all day with my kiddos at home!  When I worked full time, all I ever wanted to do, was go home and be with my little one.
  3. We want our children to have the opportunity to have Christ weaved in and out of everything they learn AND to learn the Bible and memory verses as part of their days.
  4. We want more control of exactly what they’re learning.
  5. We want to be able to tailor their education to who they are as a person.
  6. We like vacationing in the fall and winter.  🙂
  7. We want to protect them from worldly influences.
  8. I was homeschooled for the last 3 years of my schooling and have since realized that it was the best decision my parents could have made for me. It helped me to become a stronger person and I want that for my children.
  9. For the most part, we’ve always been impressed with the homeschooled children we’ve met.  They’re almost always polite, can talk to adults just as easily as children, aren’t subjected to peer pressure nearly as much and are usually pretty smart, too.
  10. Medical reasons – We have a child with epilepsy and she has so many days that she’s not feeling well, that I can’t imagine having to send her away to school.  It would be torture for both of us.  Her meds affect her in different ways, sometimes she needs more sleep, sometimes she has trouble processing information and sometimes she just needs to be near mom.

I could probably go on and on, but you get the idea.  We know, beyond a shadow of a doubt that we were called to homeschool our children.  We also know that there are plenty of people who are not called to do this.  Whatever your educational decision, I hope that you have sought God to know exactly where you’re supposed to be and what you’re supposed to be doing.

I’ve been writing about homeschooling off and on ever since I began this blog.  I plan to continue to share about it every week or so.  If there’s anything you’d like to know, now is the time to ask.  I may just write a post all about what you ask me.

Why did YOU decide to homeschool?  or Why did YOU decide against it?

PS…… if you’re a homeschooler, I wanted to let you know about a special opportunity from LessonTrek.

Thank you so much! As a special needs mommy these recipes have helped us so much.   I often am very busy with being a nurse for our child that I don't have time for making sure we get meals.  This allows me to do all my prep on the weekends, while my husband is home to help, and to cook during the week.  So grateful!

Sarah’s Freezer to Slow Cooker ebooks have been a fantastic addition to my meal plans.  They make meal planning easy and my family happy. I love the way each recipe is laid out, with a shopping list and ingredient prep list, along with cooking instructions. Sarah’s done all the hard work for me!  The recipes have used have all been delicious and easily adaptable to my family’s taste and the number of people I’m serving.

I purchased all of your freezer to slow cooker ebooks a month or so ago and I'm in love with this way of cooking.  I now have taken all 10 weeks of recipes and written them of my menu planner and then I repeated the 10 weeks and will continue to do so throughout the year.  My family of 5 adults and 1 child enjoy the meals that you have planned and I have cooked and I'm excited that the next time when that meal comes due up in the rotation I won't have to purchase anything but just pull it from the freezer.  Thank you so much

This makes my life so much easier. I'm a busy work at home/stay at home mom, wife, business woman and I feel like dinner is always the thing I just never get time to do. We have done like 15 of the crockpot recipes from Sarah and they are all very yummy. They get a thumbs up from my husband and kids every time. And there is always enough for my husband to take the left overs at least 2x per recipe. I have a family of 5, 2 adults, 21, 13, 16. So it makes plenty. Thank you Sarah.

I am a 59-year-old wife and mother of two grown children.  I love your idea of fixing a lot of meals ahead of time and then pulling one out, put it in the crockpot, and you have dinner when you get home.  I hate feeling rushed when I cook so Monday - Friday I use those crockpot meals and make enough that we have lunch the next day.  I take Sunday afternoon, fix up what I need for the week (I don't have a lot of freezer space so I do a week's worth at a time) and I'm done with it!  Saturdays I like to try new recipes from some of my cookbooks which I am finding I can freeze as well!  So you have shown me a whole new way to organize my time and still put a healthy meal on the table.  Thanks so much and I look forward to future blogs.
