How to Make a Pizza Hut Pizza Crust (Copy Cat Recipe)

I love making homemade pizza.  Ever since, I bought a used Bosch Mixer, making the pizza crust is a breeze, because I don’t have to knead the dough.  I’ve never been very thrilled with the crust though.  I mean, it’s OK, but nothing that I’m real excited about.

Finally, I decided to do a search for a Pizza Hut crust recipe.  After doing some minor tweaking, this is what I came up with:

Warning:  This is not a super low-fat crust!  No dieters allowed!  🙂  But for all of you not on a special diet, read on.

Pizza Hut Pan Pizza Crust CopyCat Recipe

Ingredients:

1 cup warm water
1/3 cup milk
1/2 teaspoon salt
4 cups flour
1 tablespoon sugar
1 package (2 1/2 t.) dry yeast
1 cup vegetable oil

Directions:

Dissolve yeast in 1 cup of warm water and let sit a couple of minutes.  Add sugar and salt to the water and let dissolve.  Put the rest of the ingredients into mixer and let knead (or knead by hand) for several minutes.  The dough should be soft and slightly greasy.

This should make 2 medium size pizzas or 3 smalls (around 9″).  I doubled the recipe and made 3 large pizzas.  Normally, my family eats pizza as if we were in a food shortage, but this one was so filling that they could only eat 2 pizzas!

My husband said that this pizza was just as good as Pizza Hut.  He’s super picky about certain things when it comes to his food, so that is saying A LOT!

The toppings on the above picture were:  hamburger, pepperoni, onions and green peppers.

What are your favorite pizza toppings?

Sounds good! Do you know if this can this be frozen? If so, after which stage in the recipe? (For example, completely raw, prebaked, fully baked, etc.)

I have never tried to freeze it, but I would say that you could do it in any of the stages, but for best results, I'd go with prebaked. Take that for what its worth though since I've never done it! 🙂

I am hoping that this will become my family's new favorite crust–my current recipe is just so-so. Thanks for sharing!

Wow! 1 cup of oil sounds like a lot! No wonder there's no dieters allowed…lol! I make a lot of pizza crust also and never have seen a recipe that calls for so much oil. I will look up my recipes and post them if I may? Of course, my boys are all partial to bread of any sort and type; though I cook and experiment a lot, they never complain about the recipe I choose. They love my cooking! lol I guess I'm lucky.

Yes, I was a little surprised when it called for so much! It still wasn't as greasy as Pizza Hut crust seems to be, but I didn't end up brushing it with extra oil like I was told…..it just seemed like too much! You're welcome to post some recipes if you want.

When you say "put in mixer" is this like a stand mixer with kneading attachment (dough hook) or are you using a bread machine on a dough cycle?

I used a Bosch Mixer with a dough hook. You could of course just do it by hand, it's just faster when you use the mixer. I'm sure a bread machine would work, too.

Do you pre-bake it at all before adding sauce and toppings? I generally do, because we put a LOT of sauce and stuff on top…I wonder if this one would let me get away with not pre-baking…

I did not. I read that you should if you were putting lots of toppings on, but mine seemed to hold up fine.

Thank you so much! As a special needs mommy these recipes have helped us so much.   I often am very busy with being a nurse for our child that I don't have time for making sure we get meals.  This allows me to do all my prep on the weekends, while my husband is home to help, and to cook during the week.  So grateful!

Sarah’s Freezer to Slow Cooker ebooks have been a fantastic addition to my meal plans.  They make meal planning easy and my family happy. I love the way each recipe is laid out, with a shopping list and ingredient prep list, along with cooking instructions. Sarah’s done all the hard work for me!  The recipes have used have all been delicious and easily adaptable to my family’s taste and the number of people I’m serving.

I purchased all of your freezer to slow cooker ebooks a month or so ago and I'm in love with this way of cooking.  I now have taken all 10 weeks of recipes and written them of my menu planner and then I repeated the 10 weeks and will continue to do so throughout the year.  My family of 5 adults and 1 child enjoy the meals that you have planned and I have cooked and I'm excited that the next time when that meal comes due up in the rotation I won't have to purchase anything but just pull it from the freezer.  Thank you so much

This makes my life so much easier. I'm a busy work at home/stay at home mom, wife, business woman and I feel like dinner is always the thing I just never get time to do. We have done like 15 of the crockpot recipes from Sarah and they are all very yummy. They get a thumbs up from my husband and kids every time. And there is always enough for my husband to take the left overs at least 2x per recipe. I have a family of 5, 2 adults, 21, 13, 16. So it makes plenty. Thank you Sarah.

I am a 59-year-old wife and mother of two grown children.  I love your idea of fixing a lot of meals ahead of time and then pulling one out, put it in the crockpot, and you have dinner when you get home.  I hate feeling rushed when I cook so Monday - Friday I use those crockpot meals and make enough that we have lunch the next day.  I take Sunday afternoon, fix up what I need for the week (I don't have a lot of freezer space so I do a week's worth at a time) and I'm done with it!  Saturdays I like to try new recipes from some of my cookbooks which I am finding I can freeze as well!  So you have shown me a whole new way to organize my time and still put a healthy meal on the table.  Thanks so much and I look forward to future blogs.
