I know we’re more than a month out from Valentine’s Day, but some of you have already set out your Valentine’s Day decorations. Why not be prepared with some cute paper crafts, too? When I decided I’d let the little girls (3 & 7 year olds) make a craft, they were super excited. Do your kids get all giddy when you let them dip their fingers or hands in paint? I love the excitement craft time brings in our family. I used to be a mom that didn’t like to take the time to make a mess. I still am sometimes. After all, we moms are always cleaning up after someone, aren’t’ we? But, since I’ve decided to be a little more intentional about our crafting times, the kids have been more content when I don’t let them get the messy supplies out. They know that craft time is coming soon, so they’re not missing out too much.
An Adorable Preschool Valentine
This craft is easily for a toddler, preschooler or elementary aged child. It’s super easy (my specialty) and can be used as a decoration for your home or as a valentine to be given to your child’s friends and/or family members.
What you need:
- Paper (I used purple card stock because I couldn’t find anything else…I need to buy some more!)
- Paint ( pink or red) – All I had was white, so I mixed some food color with it and it worked perfectly for a light colored pink.
- Cute little Hands
Directions
Pour paint out on a paper plate and spread it out in a circle large enough to fit your child’s hand. (This just happens to be my 2nd grader. I hadn’t realized that my 3 year old was in the background painting the table….ack…thankfully I caught it in time to wipe up!)
Let them stick their hands in it and place them on the paper, in the shape of a heart, like this:
Draw a heart shape around it. I did my first line in pencil to make sure I was OK with it. I later outlined it in Red Marker. Then, I drew half circle shapes around the heart shape, to give it more of a ruffled or doily look to it. I wrote several things around it that had to do with Valentine’s Day. I included things like Love, Hugs, Kisses, Happy Valentine’s Day, etc., but my favorite, was the following:
Even Ten Little Fingers Can’t Count the Way I Love You With All My Heart
