Thanksgiving. It’s definitely one of my favorite holidays. There’s something wonderful about bringing your whole family together to enjoy a meal together. For us, we normally host Thanksgiving at my house. My sister and I and all of our 14 kids, plus our parents and my in-laws are seated at our 2 8 foot long tables that are pushed together end to end in my long dining room. I think last year’s numbers we had 24 people seated there. It’s always a bit tight in space, but it’s really fun to see 24 people sitting together at the same table!
Of course, we get tired and we are on our feet constantly getting our Thanksgiving meal ready, but it is always worth the enjoyable dinner we get out of the deal. We have a lot of fun! We top it all off with a Thanksgiving play that the kids usually put on for us. My 12 year old daughter writes it and the other kids practice and do the acting out later in the day. It’s always adorable and so fun to watch! Last year, it was warm enough to watch the play outside. Which, I of course like, with our limited seating space (and stage for that matter).
On Thanksgiving, one of the ways that we are able to have so much food hot and ready all at once is by using the slow cooker! It’s an awesome way to get some of the food cooking outside of the kitchen, too. Here’s several recipes to give you an idea of things that you can cook in your slow cooker for Thanksgiving. And then, there’s another link to last year’s post full of Thanksgiving Slow Cooker ideas as well. Be sure to check them both out!
