10 Reasons my Children Don’t mind being Unsocialized….er uh…. homeschooled!
I know that I have both homeschoolers and nonhomeschoolers who read my blog. If you’re a homeschooler, you know that “What about socialization?” is a very common question that we get. If you’re a nonhomeschooler, you may actually be wondering about socialization. It’s a valid question, with a very lengthy answer that I won’t get into too much right now, but if you’re really curious about it, let me know and I can point you in the right direction! It boils down to the fact that most homeschoolers believe that their children don’t need to be in a class filled with children around their same age to be well socialized. We believe that diversity in age levels is much better for them.
So…tonight, I asked my kids why they like being homeschooled. I got some silly and some not so silly answers. My favorite, was from my 14 year old son who is growing rather quickly into a man….check out #1 below:
1. Because you can eat any time you want. (14 year old ds)
2. You can be awesome. (14 year old ds)
3. You can sleep in if you need to. (12 year old dd)
4. You can talk about Jesus in school. (12 year old dd)
5. You can jump on the trampoline while you’re reading. (12 year old dd)
6. You can be with your family all day. (9 year old dd)
7. You can stay in your pajamas all day. (9 year old dd)
8. On your birthday, you don’t have to do school. (6 year old dd)
9. You don’t get bullied unless it’s by your brothers & sisters. (6, 9, 12 year olds dd)
10. You can work ahead in your school work so that you can have some free time later. (6 & 12 year old dd)
So that’s some very good reasons to love being unsocialized. The funny thing about the birthday answer is that only 1 of them has a birthday not in the summer! We generally take the summer off, so…..they wouldn’t have to do it on their birthday anyway.
