Today is day 5 of my series:
Posts in the series so far were:
Day 1: How to Make Coasters: Patriotic Style
Day 2: 4th of July Drinks for Kids & Adults Alike
Day 3: An American Flag Fruit Plate for July 4th
Day 4: An Easy 4th of July Craft: Patriotic Wreath
Today’s craft was a little interesting. We decided to make a spray painted t-shirt in a flag design. It turned out cute, but I think it could look better, so if you decide to make this, learn from our mistakes (tips at the end)!
Supplies:
- White take top or t-shirt
- star stickers
- red & blue spray paint
- painters tape
- Cardboard
- more cardboard or paper to cover spots you don’t want overspray on
Now, as you can see this is far from perfect. I made one mistake. I let my 13 year old and her friend go and do it on their own without help. She still likes it, but the perfectionist mom in me is screaming it’s not quite right, lol. I didn’t have time to do it again before this post was due, so……I decided to go ahead and post it with these tips (that I also told my daughter):
1. Don’t spray too much. It would’ve been a lot cuter and not bled over if it wasn’t quite as red or blue. It’s OK to have the spray paint look. That’s what you’re going for. It doesn’t need to be really red or really blue.
2. Figure out how you want your sleeves. If you don’t want them colored, pin them back. We have partially done sleeves. Oops!
3. You can buy the star stickers in the Avery Labels section of Walmart.
If you decide to make this, send me a picture and I’ll put it here!

I LOVE this!! We try to "tie dye" our "school shirts" for field trips… this would be so much more fun! Thank you for sharing!
