My Top 10 Homeschooling Must Have Items!

Today, I am joining up with the iHomeschool Network and Angie at Many Little Blessings to share with you my top 10 must have items for homeschooling!

My Top 10 Must Have Items

  1. Bible – Without it, I would not have an instruction manual for life!  We use it in school with our Bible study, in science, etc.  It’s one of the main reasons we choose to homeschool!  I don’t believe the Bible should be left out of anything, especially not school.
  2. Van – While I could do without it if I had to, I sure don’t want to!  I use it to haul children to karate classes, homeschool activities, piano lessons, etc.  While I love staying home, I also love being able to go places when I need to!
  3. Laptop – I use my laptop for so many things.  I cannot even imagine homeschooling without it!  Any time my kids have a question about something that I don’t know the answer to, I use the internet to find the answer.  Not to mention the many homeschooling ideas that I can find.
  4. Printer/Copier – We are constantly using this to make extra copies or to print free printables online.  I could not survive my homeschool year without it!
  5. Kindle – I have two kids who are using the free books that are linked to at Old Fashioned Education.  There’s an endless amount of free e-books out there that we can use in our homeschools!
  6. DonnaYoung.org – I absolutely love all the free printables on her site!  Lots and lots of planning forms, handwriting sheets, handwriting paper, etc.  I go there first when I’m looking for a form for my homeschool.
  7. Camera – I love to document what we’re working on throughout the year.  We use the camera for nature study, to teach photography, for field trips, etc.  I love it even more now that I have a dSLR, although I need to make some big improvements in my skills!
  8. Apologia Science – When we switched to Apologia Science, we have been so happy with 3 things.  1)The amount they learn.  2)The amount they like it (they love it!).  3)The fun experiments.  We don’t do all of the experiments, but we do enjoy the ones that we do.
  9. Teaching Textbooks Math – As my children got older, it got a lot harder to explain the concepts to one of my children in particular.  Teaching Textbooks was my saving grace!  You do it all on the computer, including the lectures.  I normally don’t have to explain much of anything once they’re done watching it.  I LOVE it.
  10. Electric Pencil Sharpener – We had not had any success with pencil sharpeners.  I had a little battery operated one that never worked right.  So, I bought a manual one that you place on the wall.  It didn’t work right either.  Eventually, we bought an electric one at a rummage sale for $1 and it has been a keeper!  Finally, we have sharp pencils.  I was about to go out and buy that thing for $20+, too!

I know not all of my readers are homeschoolers.  If you are, what are your must have items for your homeschool?  If you’re not, what are your must have items in your everyday life?  I’d love to hear it!  You don’t have to list 10.

Thank you so much! As a special needs mommy these recipes have helped us so much.   I often am very busy with being a nurse for our child that I don't have time for making sure we get meals.  This allows me to do all my prep on the weekends, while my husband is home to help, and to cook during the week.  So grateful!

Sarah’s Freezer to Slow Cooker ebooks have been a fantastic addition to my meal plans.  They make meal planning easy and my family happy. I love the way each recipe is laid out, with a shopping list and ingredient prep list, along with cooking instructions. Sarah’s done all the hard work for me!  The recipes have used have all been delicious and easily adaptable to my family’s taste and the number of people I’m serving.

I purchased all of your freezer to slow cooker ebooks a month or so ago and I'm in love with this way of cooking.  I now have taken all 10 weeks of recipes and written them of my menu planner and then I repeated the 10 weeks and will continue to do so throughout the year.  My family of 5 adults and 1 child enjoy the meals that you have planned and I have cooked and I'm excited that the next time when that meal comes due up in the rotation I won't have to purchase anything but just pull it from the freezer.  Thank you so much

This makes my life so much easier. I'm a busy work at home/stay at home mom, wife, business woman and I feel like dinner is always the thing I just never get time to do. We have done like 15 of the crockpot recipes from Sarah and they are all very yummy. They get a thumbs up from my husband and kids every time. And there is always enough for my husband to take the left overs at least 2x per recipe. I have a family of 5, 2 adults, 21, 13, 16. So it makes plenty. Thank you Sarah.

I am a 59-year-old wife and mother of two grown children.  I love your idea of fixing a lot of meals ahead of time and then pulling one out, put it in the crockpot, and you have dinner when you get home.  I hate feeling rushed when I cook so Monday - Friday I use those crockpot meals and make enough that we have lunch the next day.  I take Sunday afternoon, fix up what I need for the week (I don't have a lot of freezer space so I do a week's worth at a time) and I'm done with it!  Saturdays I like to try new recipes from some of my cookbooks which I am finding I can freeze as well!  So you have shown me a whole new way to organize my time and still put a healthy meal on the table.  Thanks so much and I look forward to future blogs.
