My Reading List

My reading list has been growing and growing.  Here’s some of the books that we’re either currently reading or that I’ve only half read and plan to read in the near future.  I’m a bit of a procrastinator, so I pick these up and put them back down over and over again and keep not hitting the end of them.  I’m getting very close on a couple of them though!  I have been enjoying them all!  I will complete them.  I will!  Ask me soon.  🙂

Here’s my book list in no particular order:

Upgrade by Kevin Swanson – I picked this up at the Kansas City Midwest Parent Educators Homeschool Conference.  Kevin Swanson was one of the main speakers.  He was a very animated speaker that kept your attention!  He has a real drive and love for keeping your priorities straight in educating  your children.  God must always come first!  I’ve only skimmed this book so far, but we also bought his Proverbs Study Guide to go through as a family during family devotions.  I know I’ll get a lot out of both of these books.

The Story of Ruth Through a Child’s Eyes by Dan Liberto – I’ve been reading through this with my girls.  I will tell you more about it as soon as we are finished with it, but know that so far,  it is a wonderful book that we are able to use as both a story & a Bible study.  My children are engaged and really enjoying the story as well as learning something from it.  It’s been fun!  They also sell a doll to go along with the book that looks adorable!

7 Tools for Cultivating Your Child’s Potential – by Zan Tyler – This is a book that I got while at the Titus 2:1 Blogging Conference in April.  I’ve read the first 3 chapters and thoroughly enjoyed them!  A few tips have stood out to me from chapter 3 so far  (this is where I began taking notes so I didn’t forget anything I wanted to keep in mind).

  • Meaningful conversation should be a deliberate habit in your family.
  • Use Scripture whenever you can to explain why we do what we do.
  • How can you make someone love you?  spend time with them, teaching & training them!
There’s a whole lot more to this book than those small little snippets that I’ve shared.  I plan to join a book club at The Pelsers in July to discuss this book more thoroughly.  You should join us, too!

Simplified Dinners –  It took me a while to take the time to look through this e-book.  I didn’t realize how much the writer’s dinner philosophy is like my own.  When it comes to dinner, make life simple ( i know, that’s kind of a duh moment, given the name of the book, lol)!  The funny thing is, she has many of the same (or similar) recipes that I use, but then she’s also got a ton more.  I’m going to have to really focus on what she has to offer in here to make my dinner time even easier!  As I try some of her recipes, I’ll keep you posted on how much I like it!

Pursuit of Proverbs 31, by Amy Bayliss – This is a wonderful e-book.a  I’ve read the first several chapters and then put it aside for a while.  Not because I didn’t enjoy it.  I think I was hoping to get together with some friends for a Bible Study using this as our study book (along with the Bible of course!).  I love how real the author is as she’s writing.  The theme throughout the book is not comparing yourself to others! As mothers, it can be very easy to do just that!  Each chapter has some great discussion questions for self examination.  One of these days, I WILL finish this book.

28 Days to Hope for Your Home, by Dana White – I read several chapters of this one, too.  Do you see a theme going on?  I am a procrastinator.  I think I need a book called 28 Days to Hope for the Procrastinator!  Anyone want to write it for me?   🙂  Anyway, my home is something I plan to really, really focus on while I’m taking a break from school this summer.  I’d like to have it very organized and I’m thinking I’ll take it a room at a time, dumping the contents of each room out before I put only what I really want and need back.  I know this isn’t a book that gets me completely organized, but I do think that it will get me going in the right direction.

That’s all that’s on my list at the moment.  There’s a ton more in my bookshelf that I’ve only half read, too.  And you should see how full my Kindle is, too!   Time to start finishing some reading projects!

What about you?  Have you read any of these?  What’s on your reading list?

P.S.  If you have a Kindle or the free Kindle App for PC, several of the books in the Anne of Green Gables series are free right now on Amazon.  Here’s the list:

Rilla of Ingleside

Rainbow Valley (book 7)

Anne’s House of Dreams (book 5)

Chronicles of Avonlea

The Golden Road

Thank you so much! As a special needs mommy these recipes have helped us so much.   I often am very busy with being a nurse for our child that I don't have time for making sure we get meals.  This allows me to do all my prep on the weekends, while my husband is home to help, and to cook during the week.  So grateful!

Sarah’s Freezer to Slow Cooker ebooks have been a fantastic addition to my meal plans.  They make meal planning easy and my family happy. I love the way each recipe is laid out, with a shopping list and ingredient prep list, along with cooking instructions. Sarah’s done all the hard work for me!  The recipes have used have all been delicious and easily adaptable to my family’s taste and the number of people I’m serving.

I purchased all of your freezer to slow cooker ebooks a month or so ago and I'm in love with this way of cooking.  I now have taken all 10 weeks of recipes and written them of my menu planner and then I repeated the 10 weeks and will continue to do so throughout the year.  My family of 5 adults and 1 child enjoy the meals that you have planned and I have cooked and I'm excited that the next time when that meal comes due up in the rotation I won't have to purchase anything but just pull it from the freezer.  Thank you so much

This makes my life so much easier. I'm a busy work at home/stay at home mom, wife, business woman and I feel like dinner is always the thing I just never get time to do. We have done like 15 of the crockpot recipes from Sarah and they are all very yummy. They get a thumbs up from my husband and kids every time. And there is always enough for my husband to take the left overs at least 2x per recipe. I have a family of 5, 2 adults, 21, 13, 16. So it makes plenty. Thank you Sarah.

I am a 59-year-old wife and mother of two grown children.  I love your idea of fixing a lot of meals ahead of time and then pulling one out, put it in the crockpot, and you have dinner when you get home.  I hate feeling rushed when I cook so Monday - Friday I use those crockpot meals and make enough that we have lunch the next day.  I take Sunday afternoon, fix up what I need for the week (I don't have a lot of freezer space so I do a week's worth at a time) and I'm done with it!  Saturdays I like to try new recipes from some of my cookbooks which I am finding I can freeze as well!  So you have shown me a whole new way to organize my time and still put a healthy meal on the table.  Thanks so much and I look forward to future blogs.
