Mom Ramblings #1

I’m stealing Kirsty’s idea at A Little Bit of Sanity and a Lot of Chaos, and making a Mom Ramblings post.  She’s one of my favorite DIYers….you should check her out!!  Anyway, if I continue to write these posts, they could be about anything related to what we’re doing as a family….and what I’m thinking about.  You could be TOTALLY bored!

Mom Ramblings, #1

1.  We went to visit Mr. Sidetracked’s family this weekend in the city.  Stayed 2 nights with his parents.  Yup, 10 people in a small 2 bedroom duplex.  We’re awesome!
2.  On the way to the city, we stopped at a rest area to switch drivers and a quick bathroom break for Mr. Sidetracked and a 6 year old who kept changing her mind about needing it or not.  Mr. Sidetracked accidentally LEFT me and my 6 year old there.  I saw the faint end of our van, bookin’ it back onto the interstate.  In his defense, he was not feeling well and didn’t know that I had left the van.  He thought I was in the back seat.  He just forgot to look!  We had to wait about 15 minutes for him to get turned around so he could pick us back up again.  I was really scared that our van had been stolen with 5 children in it at first!  (I had left my 14 year old in charge along with making sure all the doors were locked).   Talk about an adrenaline rush!!  I was never so thankful that my husband had left me as when I realized that our van wan’t stolen.  Funny thing to be glad of, lol.

3.  We like to go grocery shopping while in the city because we save lots of money!  Some of the deals I’m excited about this time are 25 cent cans of tomatoes, 88 cents a pound grapes, 99 cent bags of romaine lettuce, $3.99 3 lb bags of frozen chicken and many more!  I wish we had more grocery competition in our little podunk town!  Walmart doesn’t offer many sales in monopolyville.
4.  I CANNOT believe that Thanksgiving is coming so soon!
5.  There was actually Christmas music playing on the radio today!!  and in Walmart a couple days ago!!  What’s up with that?  I actually LOVE Christmas music, but think it should be forbidden until the day after Thanksgiving!
6.  I got to go shopping at Goodwill today with my 11 year old daughter and the baby (because he goes everywhere I go).  That was fun!  I came home with a couple “new” shirts, 3 books, a pair of jeans for my 6 year old and some baby clothes for a friend of mine.  Every time I’ve tried to go in the past, it was with 6 kids and I swore to never do that again!  They’re very well behaved, I just can’t mentally do it.  I can’t talk to them all and shop at the same time.  Too hard on my brain!
7.  I wish I was born organized.  I really have to work very hard to ever be organized.  That, my friend is also mentally taxing!  (I’m currently in a very disorganized state!)
8.  I have 2 headboards in my building, waiting to be turned into headboard benches.  Can’t wait to see the finished product!!  I wonder what project on the inside of my house I can put off so that I can do it?
9.  We have finished texturing the walls in our converted garage…so now we’re ready for the paint.  Then comes the carpet.  YEA!  We may actually finish these bedrooms yet!!
10.  Time goes super fast now…..sometimes I think a week has gone by and it was really two!
I hope  you all have had an awesome, fun, family filled weekend!

Thank you so much! As a special needs mommy these recipes have helped us so much.   I often am very busy with being a nurse for our child that I don't have time for making sure we get meals.  This allows me to do all my prep on the weekends, while my husband is home to help, and to cook during the week.  So grateful!

Sarah’s Freezer to Slow Cooker ebooks have been a fantastic addition to my meal plans.  They make meal planning easy and my family happy. I love the way each recipe is laid out, with a shopping list and ingredient prep list, along with cooking instructions. Sarah’s done all the hard work for me!  The recipes have used have all been delicious and easily adaptable to my family’s taste and the number of people I’m serving.

I purchased all of your freezer to slow cooker ebooks a month or so ago and I'm in love with this way of cooking.  I now have taken all 10 weeks of recipes and written them of my menu planner and then I repeated the 10 weeks and will continue to do so throughout the year.  My family of 5 adults and 1 child enjoy the meals that you have planned and I have cooked and I'm excited that the next time when that meal comes due up in the rotation I won't have to purchase anything but just pull it from the freezer.  Thank you so much

This makes my life so much easier. I'm a busy work at home/stay at home mom, wife, business woman and I feel like dinner is always the thing I just never get time to do. We have done like 15 of the crockpot recipes from Sarah and they are all very yummy. They get a thumbs up from my husband and kids every time. And there is always enough for my husband to take the left overs at least 2x per recipe. I have a family of 5, 2 adults, 21, 13, 16. So it makes plenty. Thank you Sarah.

I am a 59-year-old wife and mother of two grown children.  I love your idea of fixing a lot of meals ahead of time and then pulling one out, put it in the crockpot, and you have dinner when you get home.  I hate feeling rushed when I cook so Monday - Friday I use those crockpot meals and make enough that we have lunch the next day.  I take Sunday afternoon, fix up what I need for the week (I don't have a lot of freezer space so I do a week's worth at a time) and I'm done with it!  Saturdays I like to try new recipes from some of my cookbooks which I am finding I can freeze as well!  So you have shown me a whole new way to organize my time and still put a healthy meal on the table.  Thanks so much and I look forward to future blogs.
