As I mentioned in my earlier post, you saw that we are attempting to replace the cables and now the springs of our 1999 Dutchman popup camper.
After all the research we’ve done on replacing the cables, it sounded like this should be an easy job. We were able to order the parts we needed directly from the lift system manufacturer and Mr. Sidetracked tore right in. Everything that could go wrong did go wrong and now we’ve got kinked springs. Unfortunately, we weren’t able to get it fixed in time for our previously scheduled camping trip, so we reverted to the tent for this trip (and the popup is scheduled to go into the camper fixin’ shop first thing Monday morning).
We were thinking….”big deal, we can do this”, and planned to throw the air mattress in. We knew it had a hole and figured it was the time to find it and patch it. Well, time got away [aka we got sidetracked!] and we didn’t fix it in time, so we decided that we could handle one night on the ground in our tent. Wow, what a night that was!
As I first layed down on that wonderful, hard ground, I heard all the bones in my back snap, crackle, and pop. I did finally manage to go to sleep and was quickly awakened many different times…to screams from the toddler sleeptalking about bugs crawling on her, coughing from Mr. Sidetracked, talking from the 11 year old and 10 year old who happened to wake up at 3:00 a.m. ready for conversation and giggles….you get the idea….not to mention…the ground. That hard, hard, ground! Ouch, my hip hurts just thinking about it!
Nevertheless, even though it took morning forever to arrive, we still made some fun memories camping with 4 adults and 12 kids and I’m so glad that we spent the time together as families! What’s life without fun memories?
