You can never be too careful with your children on the internet. It seems that evil can lurk at every click. You have swearing, pornography, nudity, bad lyrics, predators, malware, viruses….. you name it. Being an adult, I can be purposeful in where I click so that I don’t get the latest virus and to make sure that some bad picture doesn’t show up on my screen, but still sometimes I run into something that gives me trouble. I have, on more than one occasion, had to turn my screen away because of some bad advertisement or picture showing up when my children were nearby. As children, however, they sometimes just click and don’t think where they’re clicking. Some parents end up with malware, some with viruses and some find out that their kids were able to see some nudity and/or curse words that children (or adults for that matter) aren’t meant to see.
So far, since having children on the computers, I’ve set some rules to keep all these at a minimum. Some of these rules include:
- No using the internet in a room alone. The only exception to this is if they are watching an approved Netflix movie or video chatting with a cousin and I don’t want all the noise in the main part of the house.
- Always ask before going to a new site that we haven’t been to before
- Mom needs to be present when searching Google
- Ask before chatting with anyone
Now that my son is 14, I feel ready to loosen up a little on these rules, but I don’t want there to be dire consequences. I believe he needs to be protected from the evil of pornography that ensnares many boys and men. I decided I’d like to put some sort of filter on our compuers in order for it to filter out all that bad. That’s why I decided on Safe Eyes Parental Control Software.
Safe Eyes does exactly what I want it to. It filters out the bad words and the bad pictures, blocking sites that are known for bad content, including filtering You Tube videos. It lets you, the parent set time limits on when the child is allowed to be online and it also lets you choose whether or not you should record chats that anyone on your computer participates in. You can choose exactly which sites to block and which to allow. Then, it will email you when you need to know something. The program lets you decide how often you want to receive reports of where the users of your computer have been, anywhere from daily to weekly.
