How a Homeschool

I’ve been a homeschooling mom for 11+ years.  While that sounds like a long time, I still never tire of getting my yearly recharge when I attend a homeschool convention.  Every year, I search out that perfect convention and go with another homeschooling mom (or my husband, depending on the year).

How Does a Homeschool Convention Help to Recharge MY Battery?

  • Getting Away – When you get a chance to get away from the every day life and focus all of your mind on homeschooling and the upcoming year, it’s amazing how much more confident in your homeschooling endeavors you can become.  I either  share a double room with a friend OR my husband and I take the opportunity to get away for the weekend.  Either way, I enjoy the ability to focus.  I focus on our goals and needs as a homeschool and I focus on our goals as a family.  Although I have taken my children along with me a couple of times, I enjoy going without them, as I find that I don’t get quite as much out of the weekend when they’re along.
  • Amazing Speakers – The speakers are why I even bother showing up.  It seems that each year, there’s at least one or two speakers who know exactly what I need to hear.  It’s like my yearly pep talk.  Usually, when conference season comes around, I find that my enthusiasm for homeschooling has wained.  Going to a conference and hearing these pep talks are usually just the boost that I need to get me excited about what we’re learning and the big job that I have each year.  I especially love how the overall theme of the speakers seems to be to keep Christ first in your home and to not compare yourself to anyone else.  We homeschool moms are incredibly guilty of doing that, aren’t we?
  • Convention Hall – The convention hall (where they sell all of the homeschooling books and curriculum) can be overwhelming if you let it, BUT it can also be such a huge blessing.  Where else can you find such a variety of homeschooling curriculum items in one place?  I don’t know about you, but when I get the chance to actually touch and feel the books, opening them up to see if I think it will work for my children, I am much more confident in making the purchase.  If you need some tips on how to approach a convention hall, be sure to check out my post, Considering Homeschooling?  Attend a Convention First.

If you’re looking for a convention to attend, one of the biggest and best ones to attend is Great Homeschool Conventions.  They have 3 great locations to choose from:  Cincinatti, OH; Greenville, SC; and Ontario, California (in 2015, they’re coming to Texas!).  They have THE BEST speakers, and the biggest vendor halls!  They cover all the bases by including comedy, spirituality and practical learning, too.  They have sessions for teens and a children’s program as well.  If you’ve ever considered homeschooling, it’s time to make plans to attend and order the tickets now!

If you have any questions about homeschooling, feel free to leave me a comment and I’ll be happy to answer them when I get some free time!

Thank you so much! As a special needs mommy these recipes have helped us so much.   I often am very busy with being a nurse for our child that I don't have time for making sure we get meals.  This allows me to do all my prep on the weekends, while my husband is home to help, and to cook during the week.  So grateful!

Sarah’s Freezer to Slow Cooker ebooks have been a fantastic addition to my meal plans.  They make meal planning easy and my family happy. I love the way each recipe is laid out, with a shopping list and ingredient prep list, along with cooking instructions. Sarah’s done all the hard work for me!  The recipes have used have all been delicious and easily adaptable to my family’s taste and the number of people I’m serving.

I purchased all of your freezer to slow cooker ebooks a month or so ago and I'm in love with this way of cooking.  I now have taken all 10 weeks of recipes and written them of my menu planner and then I repeated the 10 weeks and will continue to do so throughout the year.  My family of 5 adults and 1 child enjoy the meals that you have planned and I have cooked and I'm excited that the next time when that meal comes due up in the rotation I won't have to purchase anything but just pull it from the freezer.  Thank you so much

This makes my life so much easier. I'm a busy work at home/stay at home mom, wife, business woman and I feel like dinner is always the thing I just never get time to do. We have done like 15 of the crockpot recipes from Sarah and they are all very yummy. They get a thumbs up from my husband and kids every time. And there is always enough for my husband to take the left overs at least 2x per recipe. I have a family of 5, 2 adults, 21, 13, 16. So it makes plenty. Thank you Sarah.

I am a 59-year-old wife and mother of two grown children.  I love your idea of fixing a lot of meals ahead of time and then pulling one out, put it in the crockpot, and you have dinner when you get home.  I hate feeling rushed when I cook so Monday - Friday I use those crockpot meals and make enough that we have lunch the next day.  I take Sunday afternoon, fix up what I need for the week (I don't have a lot of freezer space so I do a week's worth at a time) and I'm done with it!  Saturdays I like to try new recipes from some of my cookbooks which I am finding I can freeze as well!  So you have shown me a whole new way to organize my time and still put a healthy meal on the table.  Thanks so much and I look forward to future blogs.
