Easy Way to Save Money

I remember when Ryan and I were newlyweds.  We used our bill money to go on our honeymoon.  Our BILL MONEY!  Can you imagine?  When we returned home from our honeymoon, we had a mailbox full of bills and no money left to pay them with.

It wasn’t the smartest idea, but we were determined to have a decent honeymoon.  After that poor decision, we continued to struggle financially throughout the next few years of our marriage.  We started getting into debt, to try and alleviate some of the burden, but all that did was create more burdens on us.  Eventually, after finishing college and being unable to find a decent job, AND always having money trouble, Ryan enlisted in the Army.  It was time for us to have a regular income for a set amount of time.  That decision was a scary one for me to follow, but I’m so glad we made it.

That move, is the move that bailed us out and set us into the right path again financially.  But…because of our early financial struggles, I learned many different ways to scrape by.  And still, 20 years later, even though he makes a decent income, I still find myself being the frugal girl, shopping the clearance racks.  I’ve decided that it is ingrained in me, and even if I ever become insanely wealthy, I’ll still keep some of that frugal shopping spirit within me.  Yes, I’m the girl who brags about how cheap she got her things, rather than how much it costs.  I’m always proud of saving a buck or two.

Some People Brag - Splender

With the rising cost of everything in the stores, I love to find simple ways to save us money.  Especially if it’s at places I already shop at and on things I’m already buying.  That’s why, when I was introduced to Splendor, I was excited!

Splendor is a, super easy-to-use shopping portal that you shop through and by doing so you earn cash back on all of your purchases.  You can shop at many of your favorite stores in order to earn cash, including Walmart.com, Target.com and even craft stores like Michaels.com.  They have hundreds of stores to choose from and you can even go through them to buy gift cards at your favorite merchants and many restaurants, too.

Here’s a screenshot of some of the restaurants you can choose from, and get cash back when you buy gift cards:

Splender.com Gift Cards

Here’s How it works:

  1. Sign up for a Splender account.
  2. It’s easy to start shopping.  Just search for the store that you want to shop at, taking note of the amount of cash back you’ll receive (they have very competitive cash back rates… typically it is around 4%, but some stores are more and some are less…I even saw one store at 40% cash back).
  3. Click through the special Splender link, taking note of any coupons that they provide that may be available for you to use.
  4. Shop at the store as usual, adding items to your cart and completing checkout.
  5. Once you make a qualifying purchase, you will earn cash back and receive a confirmation email, usually within 5 days.
  6. Refer your friends and you’ll earn $10 in cash for each friend who signs up!
  7. Once your balance hits $10 or more, expect to see a check in your mailbox.  It’s that fast and that simple.

Imagine using Splender throughout the year and just collecting your cash back, as it adds up.  You could even save it up just for Christmas time to make your spending at Christmas a little easier on your family.  Of course, just using it AT Christmas time will produce it’s own reward, since we all know we spend the most during Christmas time.

Thank you so much! As a special needs mommy these recipes have helped us so much.   I often am very busy with being a nurse for our child that I don't have time for making sure we get meals.  This allows me to do all my prep on the weekends, while my husband is home to help, and to cook during the week.  So grateful!

Sarah’s Freezer to Slow Cooker ebooks have been a fantastic addition to my meal plans.  They make meal planning easy and my family happy. I love the way each recipe is laid out, with a shopping list and ingredient prep list, along with cooking instructions. Sarah’s done all the hard work for me!  The recipes have used have all been delicious and easily adaptable to my family’s taste and the number of people I’m serving.

I purchased all of your freezer to slow cooker ebooks a month or so ago and I'm in love with this way of cooking.  I now have taken all 10 weeks of recipes and written them of my menu planner and then I repeated the 10 weeks and will continue to do so throughout the year.  My family of 5 adults and 1 child enjoy the meals that you have planned and I have cooked and I'm excited that the next time when that meal comes due up in the rotation I won't have to purchase anything but just pull it from the freezer.  Thank you so much

This makes my life so much easier. I'm a busy work at home/stay at home mom, wife, business woman and I feel like dinner is always the thing I just never get time to do. We have done like 15 of the crockpot recipes from Sarah and they are all very yummy. They get a thumbs up from my husband and kids every time. And there is always enough for my husband to take the left overs at least 2x per recipe. I have a family of 5, 2 adults, 21, 13, 16. So it makes plenty. Thank you Sarah.

I am a 59-year-old wife and mother of two grown children.  I love your idea of fixing a lot of meals ahead of time and then pulling one out, put it in the crockpot, and you have dinner when you get home.  I hate feeling rushed when I cook so Monday - Friday I use those crockpot meals and make enough that we have lunch the next day.  I take Sunday afternoon, fix up what I need for the week (I don't have a lot of freezer space so I do a week's worth at a time) and I'm done with it!  Saturdays I like to try new recipes from some of my cookbooks which I am finding I can freeze as well!  So you have shown me a whole new way to organize my time and still put a healthy meal on the table.  Thanks so much and I look forward to future blogs.
