As you all know, I’m currently trying hard to eat healthier. I’m eating more fruits and vegetables as well as cutting out sugar…..especially my long time love, Dr. Pepper.
In the process, we decided to make healthy snacks for the kids today.
Butterfly Apples
These are super simple! I had made one for one of my kids this afternoon and before I knew it, everyone was requesting their own.
Here’s what you need:
- Apple
- 2 Carrot Sticks
- Peanut Butter
- Sugar Sprinkles (optional)
I have an apple cutter similar to this.
I use it to cut the apples into 8 equal parts all in one step. I love that thing!
Put a spoonful of peanut butter in the middle of the plate and place the carrot stick on it for the body of the butterfly. Place 3 slices of apple on each side for the wings. Cut little slivers off of the 2nd carrot stick for antenna (could use celery for a different color if you happen to have it). Use colored sugar sprinkles over the top to make your butterfly more colorful. I’m normally not excited about adding sugar to my kids’ foods, but this was a small enough amount and really excited them, that they could have sparkly, colorful butterflies! I loved hearing their bubbly happy voices as they enjoyed eating them.
