I asked the following question on my Facebook page the other day:
What are your best tips to help someone stay on a diet?
I got some amazing answers! In fact, they were so good that I thought I’d better share them here, with you. Otherwise, you may totally miss out!
- Eat to live, don’t live to eat.
- Know that every bite after the first, tastes the same.
- Spend a little extra on healthy snacks you enjoy. It is worth it! Otherwise, you will eat junk just because there is nothing else appetizing in the house.
- Write down your 3 reasons WHY you are doing it and put it up somewhere that you can see it all the time.
- Have an accountability partner.
- Get a bunch of small envelopes (31 for a month for example) and inside put a short encouraging word or sentence for that time of day when you are being tempted. These words could include: “you can do it!” and other quotes. (could do this to encourage a friend, as well)
- Don’t go on a diet, make the change for life!!
- Don’t do it for anyone else but yourself.
- Instead of eliminating your favorite desert or snack, make sure to allow yourself a treat to avoid overeating.
- Take account of EVERY single calorie. 140 calories for 2 tiny cookies?? Not worth it. A real eye-opener!
- Write down what you eat. Seeing it in writing makes it much more manageable.
- Drink lots of water.
- Go to bed early!
- Make it a lifestyle change.
- Have protein & vegetables with every meal.
- Start preparing your food before you’re starving.
- Find ways to “attack” the non-food related reasons for eating unhealthily. Sometimes we eat poorly because of stress or feeling sad.
- Eat before 6:30 at night.
- Brush your teeth after dinner.
- Plan well, from menus to meal prep.
- Keep a few staples on hand all the time
- Keep a few convenience foods on hand that are diet compatible, especially healthy snacks
