10 Goals I Can Accomplish in 15 Minutes

For more in my Stop Procrastinating series, check out my post on Homemakers Challenge, called 5 Ways to Stop Procrastinating and Start Doing!

Today I talk about goals.  Specifically, those goals that I can get done in 15 minute increments.

Why 15 minutes?

Because I’m busy and have a lot on my plate.

I get distracted really easily.

I have 6 kids.

They need me often.

Many years ago, I tried out the Flylady method of cleaning my house.  I couldn’t make myself do it completely the way she teaches, but one thing stood out that I grasped onto for years to come.

You can do anything for 15 minutes.

Have you ever really stopped to think about what that means?  Anything?!  Well, you can’t paint a WHOLE house in 15 minutes (or at least I can’t), but I can still paint a decent sized section of it.  I need to stop measuring by the amount of work that I accomplish (i.e. whole house as opposed to a section of the house)  and start measuring my successes and being happy because I actually accomplished something.

When I get overwhelmed, I freeze up.   It’s like I’m in a drug induced stupor that confuses my brain and has me wondering where in the world to begin.

Do you do that?

I don’t know why I do that to myself.  It’s usually not that complicated.  I can break it down into little sections of work that aren’t too hard to get done and before I know it, I’ve made some significant progress.  In fact, I’m going to show you 10 ideas of things I can get done that really shouldn’t take longer than 15 minutes, unless of course, I let it.

Before I get started though, I should share with you a few tips that help you to get the most of your 15 minutes, should you choose to give it a try.

  1. Always set a timer.  If you don’t, you’ll either stop too soon or get too engrossed and work way too long, overwhelming yourself later.
  2. Race against the clock.  See how much you can get done in that 15 minutes.  Work focused.  If  I know I’m only going to have to do something for 15 minutes, it doesn’t seem so bad to give it my all, to see how far I can get.
  3. Try doing this with a friend.  Either online or over the phone, letting each other know all the awesome work you were able to get done in that amount of time.  If you can’t think of anyone to do this with you, you can always join in our Stop Procrastinating Group that we have on Facebook.  We are currently scheduled to be doing this on Wednesday afternoons from 2-4 p.m. CT, but we’ve been known to post about something we’re working on anytime throughout the week, just for some motivation and camaraderie.  It’s been a lot of fun!

10 Goals I can Accomplish in 15 Minutes

  1. Wash Windows
  2. Clean out my van.
  3. Tidy the inside of the fridge, including wipe up spills and messes.
  4. Switch out laundry and fold & put away a load.
  5. Tidy my Bedroom.
  6. Read to my children.
  7. Load the dishwasher.
  8. Clean the Bathroom – (wipe down counter, clean toilet, quick sweep and dump trash)
  9. Vacuum the main parts of the house.
  10. Organize a drawer (or two or three).

What would be on your list of things you can accomplish in 15 minutes?

You are officially invited to join the Stop Procrastinating group.  Come join us, 15 minutes at a time!

Thank you so much! As a special needs mommy these recipes have helped us so much.   I often am very busy with being a nurse for our child that I don't have time for making sure we get meals.  This allows me to do all my prep on the weekends, while my husband is home to help, and to cook during the week.  So grateful!

Sarah’s Freezer to Slow Cooker ebooks have been a fantastic addition to my meal plans.  They make meal planning easy and my family happy. I love the way each recipe is laid out, with a shopping list and ingredient prep list, along with cooking instructions. Sarah’s done all the hard work for me!  The recipes have used have all been delicious and easily adaptable to my family’s taste and the number of people I’m serving.

I purchased all of your freezer to slow cooker ebooks a month or so ago and I'm in love with this way of cooking.  I now have taken all 10 weeks of recipes and written them of my menu planner and then I repeated the 10 weeks and will continue to do so throughout the year.  My family of 5 adults and 1 child enjoy the meals that you have planned and I have cooked and I'm excited that the next time when that meal comes due up in the rotation I won't have to purchase anything but just pull it from the freezer.  Thank you so much

This makes my life so much easier. I'm a busy work at home/stay at home mom, wife, business woman and I feel like dinner is always the thing I just never get time to do. We have done like 15 of the crockpot recipes from Sarah and they are all very yummy. They get a thumbs up from my husband and kids every time. And there is always enough for my husband to take the left overs at least 2x per recipe. I have a family of 5, 2 adults, 21, 13, 16. So it makes plenty. Thank you Sarah.

I am a 59-year-old wife and mother of two grown children.  I love your idea of fixing a lot of meals ahead of time and then pulling one out, put it in the crockpot, and you have dinner when you get home.  I hate feeling rushed when I cook so Monday - Friday I use those crockpot meals and make enough that we have lunch the next day.  I take Sunday afternoon, fix up what I need for the week (I don't have a lot of freezer space so I do a week's worth at a time) and I'm done with it!  Saturdays I like to try new recipes from some of my cookbooks which I am finding I can freeze as well!  So you have shown me a whole new way to organize my time and still put a healthy meal on the table.  Thanks so much and I look forward to future blogs.
