Family nights are an excellent way to get and remain connected as a family. Make it a tradition that is not easily broken each week. These special times need to be carefully guarded otherwise they are easily replaced with the busyness of life.
Like any gift from God, we should embrace our children and the responsibility
that comes with them. As we discussed in an earlier chapter, we must
show love to feel it. A widespread problem today is that parents are disconnected
from their children. They don’t intentionally love them. Some
just go through the motions of attending events, putting them to bed,
disciplining without love, and being proud on momentous occasions. We should embrace this gift every day. We should be praying for our children.
We should truly see them when we look their way. We must connect to
their hearts or else someone else will.
I know how it feels to be disconnected from your child. I also know what it
feels like to, at times, look upon my child only to see a responsibility. What I
should have seen was a child given to me as a gift from God. I should have
been connecting with his heart in love and not my responsibilities in anxiety.
You child knows when you aren’t really present and they will test you.
Don’t let this precious time slip through the cracks. You don’t want to look back and wonder, with regret, where the time went. You can be intentional about making it happen.
If you’ve ever wanted to tear the 31st chapter of Proverbs out of your bible this book is for you. She is a wife, mom, business owner, seamstress, she serves the needy, speaks life and wisdom, and seems to be quite the major overachiever, perfectionist type. Except that…she’s not. Come along and journey with Amy and take a look at the real woman of Proverbs 31. She isn’t as perfect as she seems. In fact, I think she is a lot like you and me.
