Reasons to Drink More Water + Get Motivated Mondays Link up

Welcome back to my series, Get Motivated Mondays.  This is week #2 and we have been talking about getting healthy and losing weight.  If you have a post to link up, please do so at the end of this post.  We’d love to hear about how you aim to get healthier!

Today my healthy tip is all about drinking more water!  We’ve all been told that we’re supposed to drink water.  Lots and lots of water.  But, how much should we be drinking?  I’ve heard it two ways:

  1. You should drink at least eight 8 oz cups of water a day.  That = 64 oz. OR
  2. You should drink half of your body weight in ounces a day.  Do you drink THAT much? Unless you weigh 128 pounds, you should be drinking more than the 8 cups a day according to this idea.  Unfortunately, I weigh more than 128 pounds, so I should be drinking more.

Since I’m not 100% sure which rule is correct (although I suspect it’s #2, since no two people are the same), I’m going to try to attain the 64 oz goal and then if I reach that, I’ll go for more.  I don’t think I’m doing too bad, but I’m going to start trying to watch it, just to see what I’m drinking.  I encourage you to do the same!

Now that we covered how much we should be drinking, we should talk about why we should be drinking it. I don’t do very well implementing ideas if I don’t know why, so this list is really for my own benefit, but I’m hoping that you get some motivation out of it as well!

  • Without sufficient water intake, you cannot properly detoxify and aid your body in elimination of wastes.  Symptoms of dehydration are feeling tired and groggy, constipation and dry skin – Dr. Mercola’s Total Health Cookbook & Program
  • “Inadequate water consumption may contribute to excess body fat; poor muscle tone; digestive problems; poor functioning of many organs, including the brain; joint and muscle soreness; and paradoxically, water retention.”  - Prescription for Nutritional Healing
  • “Consuming plenty of quality water can slow the aging process, and can prevent or improve arthritis, kidney stones, constipation, arteriosclerosis, obesity, glaucoma, cataracts, diabetes, hypoglycemia, and many other diseases.” – Prescription for Nutritional Healing
  • “Water not only aids in hydration and weight loss, it also helps the body with better digestion, assimilation, and elimination.”  - Teresa Tapp, Fit & Fabulous in 15 Minutes
  • “Water even contributes to healthier brains.  The brain is a water-loving organ.  If it doesn’t get enough, it doesn’t work right.  Dehydration can impair concentration, which is most apparent following sweaty exercise or doing brain work in hot weather.  So, drink to help you think.” – William & Martha Sears, The Family Nutrition Book
  • “People who drink lots of water eat about 200 calories per day less than people who drink much less.
  • This is likely one of the reasons why people who drink more water lose weight and people who drink
  • less water gain weight.” – Robyn Openshaw, 12 Steps to Whole Foods
So, there you have it.  Many great reasons to drink your water!  It is by far, one of the best things you can embrace to get healthier!  I plan to focus more on drinking water this week, what about you?
Drink up, girls!

Now, on to our Get Motivated Mondays party.  Thank you ladies for linking up last week.  We had a small turnout so far, but that’s OK.  Word hasn’t gotten out too much yet.  We’ll see how it goes.  If we don’t continue to get a lot of interest in linking up, I’ll still try to run a healthful tip or recipe each week.  I hope you’ll stick with us, link up and get a little motivation!  If you haven’t yet, you should go and read what Anne shared about Eating Intentionally at Quick and Easy, Cheap and Healthy.
What kinds of posts can I link up?

Is there anything that I can’t post?

  • Please no advertising from businesses.  I want this to be a woman to woman link up, not a “try to sell my product” link up.
