It’s been a while since I shared with you about my pregnancy. The truth is, I didn’t go to the doctor until I was about 20 weeks along, so you’ve not missed much. I just passed the 23 week mark on Sunday. Sometimes I can’t believe it. Other times, I want to speed up the clock and get this show on the road. 😉
The first few months were interesting. I was sick a lot. Food sounded gross, then food sounded good, then it grossed me out AFTER I ate it. I’m still like that a little bit. You just never know what will turn my stomach. The woman’s body is crazy while pregnant. It is confusing and phenomenal in all that it can do all at the same time.
My doctor’s appointment:
I was so excited to finally get to go, because I really wanted to find out what gender this baby is. We didn’t find out with our first 3 and our next 3 we did…..so now I think I must know. Guess what? Baby has other ideas! I had 2 ultrasounds, a week apart from each other and baby was sitting on his/her knees the first time, making it impossible to see the gender …..and the cord was between his/her legs the 2nd time. Baby wants to surprise us after all! Honestly, I think I saw girl parts….but…..the doctor didn’t confirm that (and I know he thought he saw boy), so….we won’t plan either way (yet). I’m no professional, that’s for sure! We have a 50/50 chance, I guess.
At my first appointment, my blood pressure was through the roof… I mean, really bad, 175/95. But, I went home and took it again (several times) and it was normal. It must’ve been a case of the white coat syndrome because when I went back the next week, it was great, too. Strange, I know!
I currently have placenta previa. It should move up, but if it doesn’t, I’ll be forced into that C-section I don’t want! The doctor sounded like in most cases it does move up though, so I’m not too concerned yet. He was very encouraging, letting me know that I’m a great candidate for a VBAC, assuming that the placenta does move out of the way of the birth canal.
Food Dislikes and Cravings
I find that when I don’t like something, it sticks. On the Border Salsa stinks (literally, smells bad, but I can usually choke it down). Cream of anything soup makes me want to gag.
I tend to crave salads and sweets. In fact, last week, when we were on a trip we made a stop at McDonalds and I ordered a side salad and a Sundae. Strange combination, I know. Hey, at least it’s not pickles and ice cream.
What’s on my Mind?
I’m concerned about having a VBAC. My choices are limited. I have to travel to a town only about 30 minutes away, but this is the first time having to travel to another town to give birth. I’m sure it won’t be a big deal, but I’d much rather stay in my town, but they don’t allow VBAC’s. I could try a homebirth with a midwife, which would work find I’m sure, but, my husband and I would prefer the hospital environment. We’ve had too many scares this past year with other things in our life and I guess we are leaning more on conventional medicine than we have in the past. We just want the peace of mind (as well as the care of mom and baby for the short time after the birth).
I’m also slightly concerned about where my placenta is attached. My placenta is attached in the front, so I don’t feel the baby kick very often. It sometimes worries me, but just when I start getting really worried, I get a hard kick to the bladder, relieving my concerns. I’m ready for baby to get big enough to feel more strongly all the time.
Last, but certainly not least, I’m concerned about gaining too much weight. I had made so much progress before finding out I was pregnant, but, feel like I’ve lost a lot of ground. It can be reclaimed, but definitely something that is weighing on my mind! I’m having a hard time with staying on a healthy eating schedule, as the foods that make me sick change like the wind! Water is hard to choke down and so are many healthy food options. I aim to make it more of a focus in the weeks to come. In the mean time, I’ll try not to look at full body shots of myself in the mirror. 😉
Well, I guess that about covers it. How are all of you pregnant (reader) buddies of mine doing? I’d love to hear how far along you are and how you’re feeling. Leave me a comment if you get a minute. 😉
