Our family has had the same small little dining room table that converts from round to oval for several years. It came with 4 chairs, so as our family grew, we added chairs and squeezed around it. When baby number 6 announced his upcoming arrival, we decided it was time to do something about that! It was time to make a table! I had been reading DIY blogs for a while and had stumbled upon Ana White’s blog where she gave plans for building furniture and made it look super easy. I had my eye on the Farmhouse Table and finally decided it was THE ONE for our family! It stretches 8 feet long and we could easily get 10-12 people around it if we needed to.
We started with the legs:
After getting the table supports in, it was time to put the breadboard ends and the tabletop pieces on.
Lastly, we used some wood putty to fill in any holes we didn’t want, sanded, stained it using Minwax Early American stain and put on a clear coat. Our final project looked like this:
Once we got the table into the house, we really loved having all that room to be able to sit around AND put our food on there. The kids thought it was great fun to slide the ketchup bottle from one end to the other. They also thought it was great fun to yell “Hello down there!” while sitting on opposite ends of the table. LOL
If you’ve never tried building yourself a piece of furniture, you should consider it. It’s not as hard as you may think!
