Instant Pot Cheesy Ground Beef & Shells
Cheesy Beef & Shells is just one of those feel-good recipes that your family can’t help but love! It’s savory and cheesy, but hearty enough to satisfy everyone. In the Instant Pot, it’s also easy and quick! It works great in a pinch when you need to come up with a dinner solution that does not take a lot of prep work.
That makes it a winner in my book!
IS INSTANT POT CHEESY GROUND BEEF & SHELLS REALLY A ONE-POT MEAL?
In the Instant Pot, it is! If you made this as a casserole, you would have to brown the meat in one pan, cook the pasta in another, and then put it all together to bake in a third pan. That’s a lot of work, and quite frankly, a lot of dishes. No thanks!
In the Instant Pot, you can brown the meat, cook the pasta, meld the flavors, and make that wonderful sauce all in the same pan. You can also do it in a fraction of the time! Less mess, less stress, and less to clean up. Yet another reason to love the Instant Pot!
CAN I USE ANOTHER TYPE OF PASTA?
My family love the shell pasta with this recipe, but any small shape will do. You can substitute rotini, penne, macaroni, or any similar shape you happen to have on hand!
WILL INSTANT POT CHEESY GROUND BEEF & SHELLS FREEZE WELL?
It definitely will! Just freeze it in an airtight container and pull it out whenever you need a quick lunch or dinner. Just make sure to stir it after heating to make mix the creamy sauce and you’re ready to go!

Instant Pot Cheesy Ground Beef & Shells
Ingredients
- 1/2 medium onion diced
- 1.5 pounds ground beef
- 1 Tbsp Italian Seasoning
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp pepper
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1/4 tsp crushed red pepper flakes
- 1 16 oz box pasta shells
- 1 24 oz jar spaghetti sauce or marinara sauce
- 3 cups water
- 1 cup shredded Parmesan cheese
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 2 oz cream cheese softened
Instructions
- 1. Dice onion.
- 2. Brown ground beef, diced onion and garlic in Instant Pot on Saute function.
- 3. Drain grease.
- 4. Sprinkle in red pepper flakes and tomato paste and stir
- 5. Pour shells over the top and then pour pasta sauce and water over the top of that.
- 6. Pat down shells into the liquid.
- 7. Put lid on the Instant Pot and close the valve to seal.
- 8. Cook on Manual/Pressure Cook, for 5 minutes.
- 9. Quick release and once pin has released, remove lid.
- 10. Stir in shredded parmesan cheese, heavy cream and cream cheese.
- 11. Serve.
