Crock Pot Spaghetti Sauce
Our family loves spaghetti, but the store-bought sauce just doesn’t always cut it! Sure, it’s good in a pinch, but it doesn’t always create a SPECTACULAR spaghetti dinner. Which, even though it’s spaghetti, we still want spectacular, right?!
Not only all of that, but you can add different things to the sauce, if you want! Like mushrooms? Add those in! The opportunities are endless!
DO YOU HAVE TO BROWN MEAT BEFORE SLOW COOKING?
Yes. yes. Yes! To start off with, I’d like to say that some people don’t believe that you have to brown meat before slow cooking, but, when it comes to ground beef, I’m a firm believer in browning it first. For starters, you don’t want all that grease cooking into your food. It can really change the taste for the worst. Second, when ground meat is slow cooked, sometimes, it never browns all the way, it can still look raw, even after it’s cooked for hours. After my experience with pink, fully cooked ground beef, I decided to not do that again. It’s just so much better browning it first.
CAN YOU COOK NOODLES IN A SLOW COOKER?
Yes, you can, but usually I don’t. Some recipes will say that you can add the uncooked pasta in the last 30 minutes of the recipe. That is an acceptable method of cooking the pasta, but for me, I feel like I have better control, by cooking it on the stove and adding it to the slow cooker dish. That way, it won’t take too long to soften, or I won’t forget about it and have mush pasta.

CAN YOU KEEP PASTA WARM IN A CROCK POT?
Keeping pasta warm in a crock pot is pretty easy. Just add the pasta to the slow cooker while it’s still warm and then add some butter or oil to keep it from sticking together. If you have some sauce or a small amount of water that you can add , that will help keep the temperature a little more even. Keep the slow cooker on the “Keep Warm” setting and not on low or high.
HOW DO I MAKE THE SAUCE SPICIER?
You may want to have a spicier sauce, which is totally yummy! Here are some ideas of how to make it spicier:
- Add minced jalapeno
- Add more chili powder
- Add cayenne pepper
- Add Rotel tomatoes with diced green chiles
CAN I USE OTHER SEASONINGS?
Yes!! An Italian Seasoning, Fresh or Dried Basil and other similiar seasonings do great in this sauce!
CAN I ADD SUNDRIED TOMATOES?
A lot of people love to add sundried tomatoes, especially if they don’t have all of the proper seasonings in place. This is a great way to add some delicious flavor to your sauce!
CAN I ADD DIFFERENT MEATS?
Sure! If you have ground turkey, ground pork or even just sausage, those are all great additions to the recipe in place of the ground beef!
