When I met my husband he was in the Army Reserves. He had a 6 year commitment there and then after we got married and had a baby, he decided to become a full time Army employee (aka Active Duty). That commitment was only 3 years. We had our 2nd baby while in the Army. It was a great experience!
I loved the Army life. It was an opportunity to experience new places and new people, too. We made some amazing friends and my husband was even able to obtain his Master’s Degree while we were in. We were lucky though. My husband was never deployed and never injured during his short active duty military career. Unfortunately, not everyone is so fortunate and many get ill or injured requiring a long-term hospital stay.
On December 1st, Walmart kicked off a really cool campaign in support of the Fisher House Foundation, which you can find on or near military and veteran installations. If you video yourself (or your kids!) doing a holiday greeting or singing a Christmas song, use the hashtag #Sing2Salute and post it on Twitter, Instagram or Youtube, then Walmart will donate $100 per video shared on those platforms! (If on YouTube, make sure the hashtag is in the title).
Here’s the video that my kids did for the cause!
If you’ve never heard of Fisher Houses, they are considered to be a home away from home for sick or injured military and veterans’ families. There’s 60 different Fisher Houses across the United States. When a service member is in the hospital for an extended period of time and the family needs a place to stay when they’re not at the hospital, this is that place. The goal of this fundraising campaign is to provide them with enough money to fund a full year of lodging for military families staying at Fisher Houses.
Walmart already pledged $500,000 to this cause, but they said they will give an additional $500,000 if we all help spread the word about it. They will give $100 per video that is shared with the hashtag #Sing2Salute! What other way can we donate $100 so easily?
There’s a Twitter party, telling more about the campaign and a chance to win prizes on December 10th at 1 p.m. ET. I hope to see you there! Use hashtag #Sing2Salute
I challenge you! Go and make a video and help support the Fisher Houses! Don’t forget to post it on Twitter, Instagram or Youtube using the hashtag #Sing2Salute.
