I have been needing to buy some hair detangler for my girls for quite some time. It’s one of those things that I kept forgetting to do when I was at the store. Since I kept forgetting, when it was bath time, I just made sure that I conditioned their ratty hair thoroughly in order to get through all those tangles when it was time to brush it. It helped, but not enough.
My 9 year old, who has epilepsy, has the the most incredibly wavy, frizzy hair. No one else in the family has this type of hair. We were told that the medication she is on could have made her hair this way. Add to it that she’s been sick for 5 days and laying around a lot made her hair especially frizzy tonight. This is what it looked like after we had already brushed it once this evening.
So, after realizing that she needed some serious help, I remembered about a recipe I had once seen for making your own hair detangler. Maybe you’ve seen some floating around the internet before? If not, here are the incredibly easy directions! It is so cheap! I’m kicking myself for not doing it sooner!
Supplies:
1 Tablespoon plus 1 teaspoon of Conditioner
Empty Bottle – I used an old hairspray bottle
Water
Pour the conditioner into the empty bottle, fill with water and shake it up. That’s it, Easy Peasy! Don’t forget to label it so that you know what it is!
My hair spray bottle was 7 oz. If you are using a bigger or smaller one, you may want to adjust the amount of conditioner you use. What a great way to use up your free samples and hotel freebies. When we were done, we tried it out on her hair. She was so happy with how fast her hair was brushed out.
Now that looks a lot better! Don’t you think? I’m so excited that I’ll always have this spray on hand [now that I have realized how easy it is]. Not only will my 9 year old have an easier time of brushing her hair, maybe now I won’t have to bribe my 3 year old to brush hers. Sometimes I wonder why I make things so hard on myself!
Have you tried making your own detangler before? Were you happy with the results?
