Does God Have a Plan For Me? + Giveaway!

Have you ever read through the book of Ruth in the Bible?  I’m sure many of you have.  It’s an excellent story of how God truly had a plan for a life, many lives.  If you’re not that familiar with the story of Ruth, did you know that King David and Jesus were born in the line of Ruth and Boaz?  Now THAT is an awesome lineage (for Ruth) to be linked to.  The crazy thing is that Ruth didn’t even know while she was living, to what an amazing descendant she would be linked to in the later generations of her family.  Don’t you wish you could know if something big and awesome were going to happen to your great-great-great-great-(and so on) grandchildren?  Of course, God knows exactly what he’s doing.  He knows that the people He puts into our paths are there for a reason.  Sometimes, they’re there to shape us into a more Godly being or to carry us while we’re weak.  He truly does have a plan.

Imagine if Ruth did not decide to follow Naomi to her home land as she knew God was calling her to do.  She would not have met Boaz and would not have been blessed with such a Godly lineage.  She would not have fulfilled God’s plan for her life.  It is the same way for us.  If we choose not to follow His leading, we will miss out on His many blessings.

The story of Ruth has so many GREAT lessons that we can take away from it. Dan Liberto of The Freedom Girls has put many of those lessons into a book for young girls.  My girls and I just recently finished reading it and it has been such a blessing to us!  It is called The Story of Ruth Through a Child’s Eyes.

The book tells the story of a modern day young girl, named Ruth, who was having trouble getting along with her little brother.  Her mother stepped in to introduce her daughter to the Ruth of the Bible, the one who she was named after.

I appreciate the angle that the writer took in writing this book.  It is a story about how a mom (and later a dad) are sitting down and explaining the Biblical story of Ruth to their daughter, in order to train her in Godliness and yet, relate it to life today.  Ruth (the daughter) asks some very good questions that are thoughtfully explained throughout the book.  It teaches our children that their lives are not meaningless accidents, but a carefully plotted plan that God Himself has made for them.  That in itself is a gem that all of our children need to hear over and over again throughout their lives!  Best of all, it encourages our children to seek God first in all of our decisions in life.

I highly recommend this book and hope that you will obtain it and read through it with your children!  It makes for a great Read-Aloud or you could even use it as a Bible study if you wish.

In addition to the book, they also have a beautiful Ruth doll that they sell in conjunction with the book.  What better roll model for our girls do we have than that of the Biblical woman Ruth?  I cringe so many times when I’m at the store and I see the scantily dressed dolls that they sell these days!  The Freedom Girls doll is nothing like that!  Any girl would be proud to carry her around, especially after reading The Story of Ruth Through a Child’s Eyes!

I have great news!  The Freedom Girls has provided a book for me to give away to one of my readers!  You can enter in the Rafflecopter widget below.  If you’re reading in an email, you’ll need to click through to my site in order to enter.

It is difficult to choose a favorite book that we share from the bible. We read to them from the entire bible, with focus on passages that relate to character training. I think as they each begin to read on their own their love for certain books will develop.

We haven't read very many. We're just now starting to read the stories. I hope to find a favorite. We did enjoy Ruth though, Noah's Ark, and Daniel in the Lions Den.

We can't just choose one event in the Bible as our favorite. We love how the events weave together through time to point to the coming savior. The kids love Moses and Esther the most though.

Actually, Ruth! I was led a few months ago to do a deep, deep study of Ruth – the base story, the back story, the history, meanings of the different words used etc. – I could probably teach it to nearly anyone by this point, but i keep finding new things to add and learn. (My poor bible is groaning with all the writing and notes in Ruth) It makes me giggle to see yet another Ruth pop up on me, this has been happening from the beginning!

I think if I *had* to pick just one, I'd say Moses parting the Red Sea. I had a friend who once told me that when she gets to Heaven, she'd like to ask God if she could see what that actually looked like! Wouldn't that be awesome?

    • Sidetracked Sarah 16 June 2012 at 11:41 pm Permalink

Oh yeah, I'd love to see that! :)
