Home Made Stain Remover

I’ve had a couple of nasty stains that I’d been needing to try to do something with.  In fact, one of them, I was going to overlook.  My baby’s poopy diaper had leaked right onto my cream colored bed sheet.  I washed it and accidentally dried it without checking it first to see if the stain had come out.  When I next went to put it on the bed, my husband was standing there and saw the great big green stain.  Me, being slightly lazy knowing that it was clean, figured I’d just use it and not let any guests sleep on it.  My husband, however, didn’t agree.  He said he wasn’t going to sleep on that thing as long as it looked like that, lol.  So…off I was to figure out how not to waste my nice, cozy flannel sheets.

Here is what I used:

  • One Part Dishwashing Liquid
  • Two Parts Hydrogen Peroxide
  • Toothbrush
  • Baking Soda (optional for more stubborn stains)
I mixed the peroxide and dishwashing liquid in a baby food jar and poured it onto my stain as needed. It bubbled up a bit. Then, I used the toothbrush to dig it in a little deeper, hopefully getting it into the fibers of the fabric as deep as possible.
Here’s a before of my flannel sheet.
I used the toothbrush on it…..
After I washed it in the washer, I could not find the stain again.
I’ll claim that as SUCCESS!

Next, I tried it on one of my baby’s shirts.  He drools all day long, soaking the fronts of his shirts and turning them yellow.  This is what his shirt looked like before…..
I used the toothbrush and also sprinkled some of the baking soda over it, this time….
and this is the final product……
I’m not quite as happy with the results of the shirt, (because it’s still a bit yellowed) and probably needed to soak it, or at least let it sit a little longer.  Overall though, I’m super happy with the stain remover and amazed that it was able to get the poopy stain out of my sheet….considering it had been dried before!
What do you think?  Have you tried this stain remover before?

Thank you so much! I was actually just looking for something like this because my daughter threw up all over her bed at 2am on Sunday, and when my husband washed (and dried!) the sheets, it did not come out. I'll give this a whirl.
